The vision behind Hard Knock Media Group

Hard Knock Media Group was founded by Jay Edwards, a Chicago native whose journey into media began at just 16 years old. He got his start in theater at Free Street Theater in Chicago, where he developed a foundation in acting, performance, and improvisation. Shortly after, he landed his first professional role, earning union status as an actor at 17.

As he gained experience in front of the camera, Jay discovered his strengths extended beyond performance and into the creative and technical work happening behind the scenes. He attended Columbia College Chicago to study film and video before choosing to continue his education through hands-on experience in the field.

Determined to learn the craft from the ground up, Jay worked alongside other filmmakers, often volunteering his time to gain real production experience. During this period, he wrote multiple screenplays and produced his own short film projects, sharpening both his storytelling voice and production skills.

As the media industry shifted and digital platforms reshaped the landscape, Jay expanded his focus beyond production to study business strategy, management, marketing, and digital growth. This broader understanding of both creativity and commerce became the missing piece.

Over time, those combined experiences — performance, production, entrepreneurship, and real-world business knowledge — came together to form the foundation of Hard Knock Media Group, a company built to create culture-driven stories across evolving platforms.
